04 April, 2012 – tedrive exhibiting and presenting at chassis.tech plus 2012
tedrive will be showcasing its products and presenting its innovative technologies at the 3rd International chassis.tech plus Symposium in Munich from 21-22 June 2012. Jens-Hauke Müller, Head of Advanced Development at tedrive, will present a paper on intelligent Hydraulic Steering Assist (iHSA). The iHSA system is based on a modular structure which is not axle load independent, allowing to connect to a wide range of safety and comfort features, including for the LCV/MDT segment, and to help reduce CO2 emissions. The iHSA also delivers an unrivaled hydraulic steering response which cannot currently be obtained from electro-mechanical steering systems. At present there are no EPS systems on the market which are able to deliver the performance of the iHSA at a reasonable price. This is why the iHSA truly is a real novelty in the steering gear market. The main emphasis of this year's chassis.tech plus will be on electromobility and its consequences for chassis development. Drivers have ever increasing expectations regarding the driving experience - a factor determined to a large extent by the driveline system. And so the industry's top priority is to find a response to these complex demands - hence the focus on this and related discussions at this year's symposium. The conference is now a firm fixture in the chassis sector's calendar. It is aimed at car and commercial vehicle makers and their suppliers, development service providers, universities and research institutes, manufacturers of instrumentation, testing and simulation systems, plus government authorities, associations and testing organizations. The first day of the event covers the general field of chassis.tech plus including topics on chassis and driving dynamics; the second day is then devoted to the four specialist sections of chassis.tech, steering.tech, brake.tech and tire.tech. tedrive is confident that its presentation on the iHSA technology will generate plenty of interest. We look forward to some lively discussions about it at our booth, where our products will be on display.

21 March 2012 – Remanufacturing of steering gears
tedrive has launched the remanufacturing of steering gear systems for the aftermarket in the beginning of 2012. The steering systems specialist has dedicated a 1,200 square meter shopfloor area specifically for carrying out complete overhauls of workshop returns. So far the company was exclusively focused on the manufacture of new OE parts, so the remanufacturing of products for the Aftermarket is a new business unit for the supplier. The used parts are checked for damage, taken apart, cleaned, remanufactured and subjected to a detailed final inspection. Typical damage includes defects in the tie rods and steering racks caused for example by bumping into curbs or by other collisions. The remanufacturing process of steering gears mainly relies on manual repair due to the specific nature of the components and individual defects of each individual steering gear unit. Background information: roughly 80 percent of the parts of a steering gear system can be re-used. In view of the growing significance of sustainable business management systems and recycling demands, the process of remanufacturing is a valuable step to help save considerable amounts of raw materials.

March 12, 2012 – tedrive showcases lightweight steering system at the 2012 Lightweight Design Summit
At this year‘s Lightweight Design Summit from 13 - 15 March in Würzburg tedrive exhibits the innovative lightweight steering system. Given the increasing levels of interest in electromobility, the race is on to find suitable steering technologies for these new vehicle types. Without combustion engine, the front axle loads in electric vehicles can be very low, depending on the arrangement of the battery modules. Weight savings are a major priority in this segment due to the limited range. As a rule of thumb, a 30 percent reduction in weight will extend the range by 10 percent. That's why tedrive has developed a lightweight mechanical steering system as a sustainable supplement to its technology portfolio. Despite its reduced weight, this steering system delivers typical, highprecision steering.
Sample calculations show that, weighing a total of just 3.6 kilograms, the lightweight steering system is up to 30 percent lighter than a conventional mechanical steering system design in a compact car. The system makes use of a lightweight design featuring inner joints, individual hollow components and weight-optimised pinion mounting. These lightweight elements can, of course, also be used in conventional mechanical steering systems, e.g. in steering column-based EPS systems. The use of a split steering gear housing based on proven steel housing technology ensures a high degree of design flexibility. This makes the production of smaller batches viable by keeping the costs for development and tooling down. The high level of interest in this technology from the e-mobility sector underlines the potential of this groundbreaking development.
